Former Destrehan High running back John Emery’s most recent appeal to the NCAA to overturn his academic ineligibility has been denied, leaving the LSU rusher in limbo for the time being.
The NCAA’s decision was reported Wednesday by Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger via Twitter. Dellenger noted Emery and his attorney will pursue other options. But in the meantime, Emery will remain sidelined, as he has been through LSU’s first four games of the season.
Shortly before LSU’s season opening loss to UCLA, the school reportedly learned Emery would not be eligible to play this season. A first appeal was denied in early September.
LSU’s attempt to secure a waiver for Emery on the basis he and his family were dealing with pandemic-related hardships was also denied.
The NCAA maintains its decision is final.
Emery left Destrehan as a 5-star prospect, one of the most sought-after rushers in the nation. The junior entered the season atop the LSU depth chart and 2021was expected to be his launching point and Emery has continued to practice with the Tigers in hopes of making a return.
