Destrehan remains unbeaten, moves win streak to 21 straight

Kolaj Cobbins signals a turnover as Destrehan defeated Terrebonne on Thursday night.

Terrebonne was battling tooth and nail with Destrehan early in Thursday night’s District 7-5A battle, the team’s knotted up in a scoreless tie midway through the first quarter.

Then the Wildcats’ playmakers stepped to the forefront – starting with a bomb from Jackson Fields to Jabari Mack that ignited what turned into a 38-7 Destrehan win, the team’s 21st victory in a row.

Destrehan moves to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in District 7-5A with the win. Terrebonne absorbed only its second loss of the season, falling to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in district play.

Mack’s touchdown came on a 70-yard pass over the top of the defense. Then Kolaj Cobbins showed his improved all-around game, intercepting a pass in coverage and bringing it back for a pick-six that made it 14-0 just before the end of the first quarter.

And Greg Wilfred made one of the most impressive plays of the night on his touchdown reception from Fields, a leaping contested catch on a post route that pushed Destrehan’s lead to 21-0 at halftime.

But the night’s biggest highlight belonged to Anthony Robinson. The Ole Miss commitment caught a short pass and turned it up-field toward the right sideline; he then reversed field and took it sideline to sideline, getting loose for a 31-yard touchdown in the second half.

The Destrehan defense, meanwhile, was on the verge of recording its third straight shutout before Terrebonne’s Kylan Billiot, an LSU commitment, hauled in a touchdown pass from Owen Oliver with 31 seconds left in the game.
