Destrehan has outscored opposition 174-11 after four games
Off to as dominating as start as it’s ever had, No. 1 Destrehan turns its attention to H.L. Bourgeois, which hosts this District 7-5A clash on Friday.
H.L. Bourgeois enters with a 1-3 record thus far this season, including a 22-17 loss in its district opener a week ago to Terrebonne. The Braves’ lone win came in Week 3, a 26-14 victory over Ellender, with prior losses to West Jefferson and Lafayette.
The Braves went 4-5 in 2021 and posted a winning district mark at 4-3. The season was indicative of a program on the upswing, as those four wins bested the team’s combined mark of three wins over the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
Last season, Destrehan defeated H.L. Bourgeois 45-0 that was in part highlighted by a pair of defensive touchdowns scored by Kevin Adams and Jermaine Stewart respectively. Trey Nixon, Shane Lee and Brandon Freeman each added rushing touchdowns on the night.
Destrehan is trying to extend a District 7-5A winning streak of what is now 16 games after last week’s 41-3 victory over rival Hahnville.
NUMBER ONE – Destrehan climbed to the top of the LSWA’s Class 5A poll, a choice at the top made a no brainer following the news that previously No. 1 ranked Karr would have to forfeit its first three wins of the season.
But Destrehan isn’t backing into anything, not by a longshot. The Wildcats have now outscored their opponents by a ridiculous 174-11 margin.
The Wildcats are unified in their vision for how this season will play out. After last Friday’s win over Hahnville, defensive tackle Jairin McCall said that the win felt good, but that he and his teammates still had much work to do because the goal is a return to the Superdome for the Class 5A championship game – and to return from that game with a win. Several teammates have echoed the same sentiment after wins this season, as a Destrehan team that has been to at least the state semifinals in four consecutive seasons is determined to take that final step this year.
