Ed Reed’s Camp Returns

The Ed Reed Football Camp is coming back to Destrehan on Wednesday, June 10, and Thursday, June 11.

The camp will be supervised by Reed, along with Destrehan High School head football coach Stephen Robicheaux and staff.

In years past, the camp has featured other NFL players the likes of Santana Moss of the Washington Redskins and Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens. NFL players typically offer autographs for the kids on the last day of camp.

Reed is a huge draw to the camp having had a two-time All American college career at the University of Miami where he was a member of the team to win the National Championship in in 2001.

Reed went on to the pros where he became a nine- time pro bowl selection for the Baltimore Ravens and helped the Ravens to win Super Bowl XLVII in 2012.

But is not all socializing and All Pro’s signing ball caps, these kids work. Coach Robicheaux  said previously,” players who attend this camp are going to get a good knowledge of the game of football.”

The camp is run through the Ed Reed Foundation, whose executive director is Glenn Younes. Younes said the foundation is happy to give back to the community that Reed hails from.

“As we’ve done for many years,” Younes said. “ Our annual football camp for children allows our coaches and NFL players to interact in a manner to teach children the right way. It’s not about football, but about life. We are proud to do our part for the children.”

Robicheaux, who has been a part of the Ed Reed Football Camp since it was formed in 2002-2003, said Reed is not like a lot of other pro players who get involved in this type of event.

“Ed Reed is really special,” Robicheaux said. “When you watch a guy like Reed you can see he really cares about the kids. There are a lot of guys who just put name on a camp and that’s it, not Ed. He goes out and instructs the kids, pushes the staff and really gives of himself. The camp is a lot of hard work, but it’s also a lot of fun.”

The camp will be held at the Harry Hurst middle school, 170 Road Runner Ln. in Destrehan from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., both days. It is open for children between the ages 7-17.

The fee is $40 and registration is open the morning of the 10th.
