Destrehan locks up district title

The Destrehan Wildcats locked up the District 7-5A championship with wins over Central Lafourche, South Lafourche and H.L. Bourgeois, outscoring those three opponents by a combined score of 31-3.

The Wildcats needed just five innings to dispatch Central Lafourche 10-0 last Thursday.Destrehan took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Ryan Brewer slid home on a wild pitch and never looked back as they dominated Central Lafourche with a six-run second inning.

Nathan Pilutti began the second frame with a home run to centerfield, and Brennan Breaud doubled in two more runs to put Destrehan up 5-0.

Brewer singled to drive in another run, and Sam Steib followed with a double to make the score 7-0.

In the fourth, the Wildcats put the game away. Hunter Abadie drove in Brock Benedetto and Pilutti with a single to right field. Jacob Cambre then came home on a wild pitch to give Destrehan the 10-0 victory.

Breaud and Abadie each drove in two runs in the victory. Brewer went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Steib and Pilutti each recorded an RBI in the game.

Destrehan’s Ryan Brewer no-hit South Lafourche through six innings while striking out five to lead his team to a 10-0 victory on Saturday.

Brewer got plenty of run support from his teammates, with the Wildcats taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Steib.

The Wildcats built onto the lead with three more runs in the second inning. Breaud reached on an error that scored both Cambre and Austin McDonald, with Granier reaching on another error to put Destrehan up 4-0.

In the fourth, Granier extended the Wildcat lead with a home run to right field, and Brewer doubled to drive in a run for a 6-0 advantage.

The Wildcats hit parade continued in the sixth inning with Destrehan scoring four more runs to end the game early due to the mercy rule.

Singles by Pilutti and McDonald gave the Wildcats an 8-0 lead early in the sixth frame. Brewer then blasted a hard ground ball to centerfield that plated both Cambre and McDonald for the 10-0 win.

The Wildcats took control early against H.L. Bourgeois and scored five runs in the seventh inning on their way to an 11-3 victory on Monday.

Destrehan took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Steib, and extended their lead to 3-0 in the third after a two-RBI triple by Pilutti.

In the fourth, the Wildcats added three more runs on an error, a sacrifice bunt by Brewer and a sacrifice fly by Steib.

Cambre gave his team an 8-3 lead with a two-RBI single to center before coming home to score on a passed ball. Brewer then doubled to plate both Abadie and Breaud, putting the finishing touches on his team’s 11-3 win.

Brewer led the Wildcats from the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Steib, Pilutti and Cambre each finished with two RBIs in the victory.

Nick McClendon picked up the win for the Wildcats, giving up just five hits and two earned runs in five innings.
