Neither Hahnville nor Destrehan came out on top in the St. Charles Shootout, but both teams did manage to win two of their three tournament games, with the Lady Tigers finishing third in the field.
Overall, 12 teams participated in the annual shootout, which was hosted by both Hahnville and Destrehan. The Lady Tigers (7-7) got off to a fast start against Mt. Carmel, pulling out a 55-47 win. Hahnville then topped South Lafourche in a 52-51 thriller to advance to the semifinals of the tournament.
But that’s where the Lady Tigers’ journey would end, as they lost a 42-47 heartbreaker to Thibodaux.
Meanwhile, Destrehan (8-7) actually fell to Bonnabel 41-50 to open up the tournament, but rebounded for two huge wins. The Lady Wildcats beat John Curtis 40-38, then destroyed Bonnabel 55-37 to avenge their earlier loss.
“We played really good after losing the first round game to Bonnabel and we came back to pick up two wins and end the tourney with a 2-1 record,” Destrehan girls basketball coach Ulysses Frontha said.
Destrehan’s Paige Rochelle, along with K.K. Boyd and Jasmine Hill from Hahnville, were named to the all-tournament team.
