Destrehan goes 2-2 in weekend tournament

The Destrehan Lady Wildcats softball team finished even at the Catfish Classic, winning two games while dropping a pair of contests.

Dominating Chappelle 13-6 in seven innings in its first game on Thursday, Destrehan’s Krista Robles got the win despite giving up six runs on 12 hits and one walk. Robles recorded four strike outs on the afternoon.

Destrehan scored on a passed ball and a single by Morgan Foret, who also got two RBIs on three hits. Hailey Draughon scored two runs off a double and later one run off a triple, scoring Foret in the third. The Lady Wildcats scored a total of eight runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Friday’s weather conditions left much to be desired as raw wintery winds and temps in the upper 30s made playing conditions almost intolerable. The Lady Wildcats dropped game two to Belle Chase 8-4.

Destrehan’s Taylor Lucich did all she could to stay warm by driving in one run, scoring another and notching a home run in the final inning. Robles allowed eight runs in seven innings, walking one and recording two strikeouts. Despite a fine showing at the plate by Robles at the plate on Saturday the Lady Wildcats fell to Hanson 7-6 in a close match up.

Robles singled in the first, third and fourth innings, but Hanson scored four runs in the sixth inning, giving them the edge over Destrehan.

In the second game of Destrehan’s double header on Saturday, the Lady Wildcats took on Ursuline where both teams combined to score 27 runs in Destrehan’s 14-13 victory.

The lead changed nine times in ten innings. Robles recorded the win allowing 11 runs on 12 hits, two walks and six strikeouts. Robles also scored two runs on a triple in the third inning.

In the eighth inning, Destrehan’s Julie Scheuermann dinged a three-run homer to take the lead into the tenth. Tied at 13-13 in the tenth, Ursiline walked in Amanda McNaughton to give Destrehan the victory.
