Destrehan girls don’t stumble in

The Destrehan Lady Wildcats have been impressive through the first two rounds of the Rumble on the River tournament, picking up wins over Doyle and McKinley.

Against Doyle, Destrehan stormed out to an 11-3 lead in the first quarter, but had to fight off a rally by Doyle in the second to keep a 24-14 lead at the half.

In the third, the Lady Wildcats once again outscored Doyle, this time 10-6, to stretch their lead by 14. The Wildcats then held on in the fourth for a 51-35 victory.

As she has been all season, Paige Rochelle was unstoppable, scoring 29 points. Alia Blossomgame added 8 points, Armani Lee chipped in with 6 points, while Troi Payne and Leann Wilson each had 4.

The competition was a little stiffer in the Lady Wildcats’ second round game, with Destrehan coming out on top in a defensive battle.

The Wildcats and McKinley combined for only 22 first half points. Destrehan took a 14-8 lead into the third quarter, but McKinley outscored the Wildcats 12-11 in the third to cut into the advantage.

Though McKinley once again outscored the Lady Wildcats by one point in the fourth, Destrehan was able to hold on for a 35-31 win.

Rochelle once again led her team in scoring, finishing with 17 points. Rheaven Ewing added 10, while Lee scored 6 points and Blossomgame added 2.
