Destrehan’s week got off to a good start last Thursday when the Wildcats picked up a 4-0 victory over Terrebonne.
The game stayed scoreless until the top of the ninth when the Wildcats made their move to take a lead they would not relinguish. Dane Simon led off the ninth inning with a line drive to center field before advancing to second on a wild pitch.
Senior Connor Caminita drew a walk to put two runners on, and senior Brennan Breaud loaded the bases after hitting a perfect bunt and beating the throw to first.
That set the stage for some late-inning heroics by junior Brandon Wild.
Wild smashed a grand slam over the center field fence that put his team up 4-0.
Wild also took the hill on the afternoon and recorded the win after holding Terrebonne scoreless and allowing just six hits.
On Saturday, despite jumping out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, Destrehan came up just one run shy, 7-6 of the win against Hahnville.
The lead changed several times twice in the early innings, but after the top of the third the best DHS could do was tie the Tigers 2-2 in the top of the third and 3-3 in the top of the fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth Destrehan had four runs scored on them and looked a tad grim until a late game rally brought the Fighting Wildcats within one run in the top of the sixth.
