Destrehan cruises past Central Lafourche, 37-3

Led by a dominant defense, the Destrehan Wildcats stormed out to a 37-0 halftime lead before going on cruise control for a 37-3 homecoming victory over Central Lafourche.

The Destrehan offense got the Wildcats started after Will Mathews opened up the game with a 39-yard touchdown run to put his team on top 7-0. On the next series, the Destrehan defense got into the act. Wildcat linebacker Peyton Steib recovered a fumble at the Central Lafource 18-yard line to give the offense a short field.

Quarterback Donovan Isom connected with junior Kirk Merritt for a 12-yard gain, and then Isom found Tramaine Arsmstrong open in the end zone to put Destrehan on top 13-0 less than three minutes into the game.

On Destrehan’s next possession, Mathews rumbled through the middle for a 28-yard gain to the Central Lafourche 19-yard line. Isom found Merritt in the end zone, but the receiver was unable to hold on to the ball due to pass interference.

Even after the penalty, the Wildcat offense couldn’t to find pay dirt and the team settled for a 27-yard field goal by Cameron Walsh.

However, minutes later Destrehan defensive end Glen Logan broke into the Central Lafourche backfield and forced a fumble, which was recovered by linebacker Malcolm Darensbourg for the score to put Destrehan up 23-0.

In the second quarter, the Wildcats padded their lead. Isom threw a short pass to Mathews, who turned it into a 70-yard gain. Karon Taylor followed with an 8-yard touchdown run.

The Wildcats final score of the half came on a 2-yard touchdown run by Mathews, which was set up by a 42–yard pass and catch from Isom to Alfred Smith.

The Wildcats will visit South Lafourche next Friday. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m.
