
The Destrehan boys basketball team couldn’t hold on to an early lead as they fell 49-44 to Comeaux in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs.
The Wildcats stormed out to a 14-2 lead in the first quarter, but Comeaux slowly began to chip into that margin. By halftime, Destrehan’s lead was 22-20
Comeaux tied the game on the first play of the third quarter and went on an 11-4 run to take control of the game.
Destrehan rallied with under 30 seconds left in the fourth on a jumper by Kevin Smith and a tip-in by Keigan Joseph to climb within seven points with 15 seconds left. Bryan Singleton hit a three pointer with six seconds left to cut the Comeaux lead to 47-44, but the Spartans iced the game at the line a play later.
Smith had 14 points for the Wildcats in the loss, while Singleton scored 12.
Meanwhile the Destrehan girls, who traveled to take on Ouachita, fell 50-36.
