Destrehan blasts Ehret to move to 3-0

John Ehret entered Friday’s game at Destrehan with already two wins over River Region foes in pocket. The Wildcats, in no way, shape or form, gave Ehret a chance to make that number three.

Behind  a huge night from Chad Serrano, the Wildcats emerged from their final pre-district test 38-18 winners over Ehret.

“We’re ecstatic to be 3-0 and … you know, whenever you beat a top 10 team like an Ehret, it factors big in the power points as well,” Destrehan coach Stephen Robicheaux said. “Ehret’s a really good football team. Their front seven, we knew they were good and they were again tonight, but we were fortunate to get some big runs when we needed them and also some big plays through the air to John Williams.”

Serrano scored two touchdowns, one on a reception and the other on special teams, and also intercepted a pass. His special teams score came after he forced a fumble on an Ehret kick return and scooped it for a 35-yard return score.

That play came early in the second half, with Destrehan leading 10-0.

“We always talk about the first three minutes of the second half being one of the most important times of the game,” Robicheaux said. “Then Chad comes up big there and pushes us up 17. It was a big shift in the game.”

That was the fourth touchdown on special teams for Destrehan this season.

“There are three phases of the game and they’re all equally important,” Robicheaux said. “Coach Wag (Paul Waguespack) and those guys do a tremendous job and have been all year.”

Kohen Granier completed 8 of 17 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns — two of those went to John Williams, who has scored five times this season, all of those over the past two games. Granier and Williams connected for scores of 35 and 69 yards.

Kristian Mosley also scored a touchdown for the Wildcats. Hunter Breit kicked a 25-yard field goal.

Ehret played without Missouri commitment CaRon Baham, the team’s quarterback who was diagnosed with a torn ACL this week. But Ehret had defeated East St. John and Riverside without his services for the vast majority of time: he was injured on his team’s first series of the year against Riverside.
