Coach Marty Luquet

Marty Luquet begins his eighth year as head baseball coach at Destrehan High School.

He has compiled a 221-86 record in seven years with the Wildcats. During that time, Destrehan has appeared in the 5-A playoffs all eight years, reached the state tournament six times, and advanced to the 5-A state championship twice (2003 and 2005). His teams are known for their aggressive, hard-nosed play and a competitive attitude that personifies their coach.

During his 19-year coaching career, Luquet has coached more than 500 games and has a 363-193 overall record. He began his career at J.F. Kennedy High School (1980-82) and was head coach at O. Perry Walker (1982-91) and St. James High School (2000-01) before becoming head coach at Destrehan. He also served as an assistant coach at Nicholls State University in 1987.

He was 5-A Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2005, New Orleans Metro Coach of the Year in 2002, River Parishes Coach of the Year, and District Coach of the Year nine times.

Luquet played under legendary coach Ron Maestri at the University of New Orleans (1978-79), where he completed his playing career. He transferred to UNO from Harper Junior College in Palatine, Ill.

He is married to Lori Lyons. He has three children.
