Desty Darlings rack up awards

Last week, the Destrehan High School Desty Darlings dance team attended a UDA Elite Summer Camp at the University of Louisiana- Lafayette and walked away with several awards.

Those achievements included Superior Ratings for their Home Routine, Superior Ratings for their Team Routine, and Superior Ratings for all individual evaluations.

They placed second for both their Home Routine and Team Routine. The girls also took home the spirit stick award on the first night of camp, which was given to them by the UDA staff.

With these awards, the girls received a bid to the National Dance Team Championship held in Orlando in February of 2012.

Senior Desty Darlings who were chosen for the American All- Star award were Hailee Weber, Katie Pitts, Kimberly Feagley, Ambria Sylvain, Kelly Staub, and Kelsey Sensebe.

Last year, the Destys won first place in the state of Louisiana for their Jazz and Hip Hop routines at the UDA State Competition and at the American All-Star State Competition.

The girls will be competing again to defend their state titles in January of 2012.

The Desty Darlings are under the direction of Micque Voges, who serves as director, and Jessica Johnson, who is the assistant director.
