The 10U LA Hurricanes softball team, based out of St. Charles Parish, recently traveled to Orlando, Fla. to play in the 10U USSSA World Series at the ESPN Wide World of Sports.
The Hurricanes beat teams from Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Iowa. Their only loss was to the Torment (Georgia), 4-2. The Hurricanes fought thru the losers’ bracket to get to the championship round, in which they needed to beat the Torment twice to become world champions. The first game ended with a victory for the ‘Canes, 11-1. The second game ended with the Hurricanes taking home the trophy via a 7-2 win. The tournament MVP was Karlie Dufrene and Outstanding Pitcher was Mackenzie “Mack” Kliebert. Team players were Laney Waguespack, Sara Roussel, Cadence Graham, Katie Ortego, Laura VanEtta, Kate Bruce, Karlie Dufrene, Mackenzie Kliebert, Ashlyn Gordon, Avery Edgar and Whitnei Guidry. Coaches were Chris Waguespack, Ryan Roussel, Chad Graham and Kacy Monfrey.
