Hard work pays off for local teams

The Mimosa Anteaters coached by Blake Matherne and Marshall Ballard rallied in the final tournament over the weekend to take the age 15-18 St. Charles Rec. Championship. They won 3 games in a row against strong opponents on Sunday, one against Norco and a double-header against Destrehan’s Abbate team to take the title. Anteater team members are: Brandon Ballard, Ben Taylor, Jared Vial, Shea Majoria, Ryne Robert, Chris Berr, Micheal Aucoin, Matt Allo, Brent Simmons, Chad Bettencourt, Tyler Fisher, Devon Roux, Hunter Robinson, Clay Boutte. Coaches Blake Matherne and Marshall Ballard.

The Destrehan Abbate 13-14 years baseball team won the St. Charles Parish Recreation 13-14 years baseball championship, with one loss during the season and going undefeated in the playoffs.  Members are Jordan Liuzza, Brennan Quigley, Tre Krajcer, Jimmy Antin, Brett Hebert, Walter Johnson III, Zachary Schexnayder, Kyle Bonneval, Adam Fisher, and Brandt Bourgeois.  Coached by coach Frank Abbate,  assistant coach Walt Johnson,  and assistant coach Richard Schexnayder.

The St. Charles Rams, a local 13 year old USSSA Team, recently came out 2nd in the Laginappe on the Bayou Tournament in Houma. Losing by one point in the finals in a thriller.  This team is made up of young men from the west and east banks of St. Charles Parish.  Coached by Billy Gwinn, Coach Jon Fahrig, and Coach Eddie Evers. Players are: Jake Noel, Christopher Neylon, Brock Beck, Dean Vosloh, Seth Evers, Jimmy Antin, Cameron Fahrig, Zach Fisher, Nick Keran, and Devin Gwiinn.

The Westbank recreation Allstars defeated the Eastbank Recreation 13-14 Allstars in the Annual Recreation Allstar 13-14 year-old playoff on Saturday, June 23 at the East Bank Bridge Park.

Players are Eli Watson, Jason Baudoin, Devin Gwinn, Cameron Fahrig, Austin Savoie, Evan Boyer, Kody Dufrene, Nathan Aupied, Jake Noel, Ronnie Green, Christopher Neylon, Christian Champagne.  Coached by Head Coach Billy Gwinn and Asst. Coach Tony Champagne.

The Norco “Gators” captured the 2007 9/10 year old Parish Championship by going undefeated in tournament play. The team won the Championship game 3 – 2 competing against a very good Destrehan ( Pigeon ) team. The “Gators” season W -L record was an unbelievable 24 – 1 – 2. “Gators” players are Chris Marshall, Dylan Duhe, Bradley “wildman” Barbay, Louis Puissegur IV , Cole Perilloux, Tony Palmisano, Cole Bennett, Triston Wenturine, Isaiah Sterling, Devyn Breaud, Elijah “E” Duhe and Austin Abbate. Coaches pictured are Terry Perilloux, Pat Barbay, Ursin Abbate and Louis Puissegur III.

The St. Charles Parish 8 Year Old Westbank All Star Baseball Team were the runner-ups in the Noah All Star Tournament held in Laplace Father’s Day weekend.

Players: Cullen Ballard, Austin Perrin, Logan Robert, Logan Robicheaux, Hunter Johnson, Zachary Rankin, and Waylon LeBlanc.  Second Row: Mike Kinler, Chandler Freemen, Carter Norman, Matt Barbier, Caleb Joyce, and Cade Miguez.  Coaches: Asst. Coaches Tim Perrin and Roger Rankin with Manager John Joyce.

River parish Hurricanes (11 & under AA) travel baseball team out of Norco won their first USSSA tournament at Cypress Park in Belle Chasse on June 3. The team was formed in January 2007. Congratulations to all the players for their continued hard work.

Players: Austin Abbate, Bryce Shelton, Cody Cambre, Devyn Breaud, Elijah Duhe, Hunter Abadie, Isaiah Sterling, Korey Miller, Kyle Schexnaydre, Louis Puissegur, Matthew Gunter, Michael Smith, T.J. St. Pierre and Triston Wenturine. Coaches: Louis Puissegur, Steve Abadie, Todd St. Pierre and Manager Ursin Abbate.

The Perrier-Mimosa Tigers 7-8 boys baseball team– who are the 2007 Champs of the St. Charles Parish Recreation 7-8 boys division. The championship game was this past Friday night against Destrehan-Granier.  The score was 17-9. The attached second photo of the team includes the following:
