Baltimore Ravens owe St. Charles Parish big time, says Mike

Raven’s strong safety and HHS grad Dawan Landry attended the Hahnville-John Ehret game

Talk about homecomings. When the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens go head to head us local folks hardly know who to root for with so many former St. Charles Parish high schoolers lining up for the Ravens. The Ravens’ secondary – one of the best in the NFL – is led by former Destrehan High School free safety Ed Reed. But he’s not the only “local kid” lining up for Baltimore.

The former Wildcat star defender, who earned All-America honors at Florida’s University of Miami, pairs off with former Hahnville High School strong safety Dawan Landry. Landry was snatched up by the Ravens in the fifth round of the 2006 draft (out of Georgia Tech) and earned a starting berth in the pre-season.

Another “near-local” star – former Lutcher High School and 2006 third-round draft choice David Pittman, who played college football at Northwestern State (LA) – is a back-up cornerback for the Ravens.

And while we’re talking about stars you know…

East St. John High School star safety Stefoin Francois has been selected to play in the United States Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas, on Jan. 6, 2007. The Army all-star classic features most of the top-rated players in the country. A tradition is for many of the players to commit to the college of their choice while the game is in progress.

In years past, East St. John High School quarterback Ryan Perrilloux and Destrehan High School cornerback Jai Eugene have played in the All-American Bowl.
