Adams shines at Denver

Luling native leads the way as senior

Senior women’s basketball player Venice Adams of Luling earned All-Sun Belt Conference Third Team honors it was announced by league officials today. Adams, is the first Pioneer to earn All-Conference honors since Ashley Atkinson earned honorable mention accolades in 2002-03.

Adams, a business, hotel, restaurant and tourism major, averaged 10.0 points per game and led the Pioneers in rebounds with 7.1 per game good for seventh place in the conference. Adams, also boasted a .503 field goal percentage ( 92 of 183) and posted six double-doubles on the season. Adams was also the only Pioneer to start every contest during the 2005-06 regular season.

All 11 conference coaches vote on all-conference winners, as well as Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Defensive Player of the year and Coach of the Year awards at the conclusion of the regular season.

DU will next be in action at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament March 4-7 in Murfreesboro, Tenn., hosted by Middle Tennessee. The Pioneers are the No. 2 seed in the West and will face the winner of New Orleans and Florida International in the quarterfinals. Tip off is scheduled for 6:30 pm (MT) on Saturday, March 4.
