6 from Hahnville head to state track and field meet

Hahnville High School will be well represented at the LHSAA Track and Field Championships this weekend at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium.

The Tigers will send six participants who will be competing in a total of 13 events. An athlete had to finish in the top three in their event at regionals in order to qualify for the state championships.

Brock Bourgeois will compete in the Para-Ambulatory division in the shot put, discus, javelin throw, and 100 meter dash on Friday.

On Saturday, sophomore Breanne Bias will compete in the 200 meter dash. She is the lone representative from the Lady Tigers after a third place finish in regionals.

On the boys side, the Tigers will be represented by Rickey Preston, Brandon Singleton, Beau Robinson, Bryce Robinson and Bourgeois.

Singleton, who finished second in the 110 meter hurdles despite losing his balance on the last hurdle, will enter the state competition as the No. 3 seed. Preston, who suffered a shoulder injury in the district championships two weeks ago, will be competing in the javelin throw after finishing third at regionals.

Bryce Robinson was the 1600 meter regional champion, and was the runner up in the 3200 meter. His brother Beau, who had an injury at the beginning of the season and was forced to rest for four weeks, looks to be back in form as he finished as the runner-up in the 1600 meter and claimed third place in the 3200 meter.

From a team perspective, the Tigers finished in fourth out of 17 teams at regionals while the Lady Tigers finished a disappointing 16th out of 18.
