2 Tigers land on coaches All-State team

Both received district MVP honors

Hahnville football players Gabe Taylor and Sergio Medina were both named to the Football Coaches Association of Louisiana’s Class 5A All-State team.

Taylor, a senior from Luling, has already been named the District 8-5A Defensive Player of the Year and finished as an honorable mention on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-State team.

He made big plays all over the field throughout the season and finished with more than 100 tackles and 21 tackles for loss. Taylor also recorded three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, an interception and multiple sacks.

Medina, who began the season at middle linebacker before switching to running back, rushed for 1,047 yards and 15 touchdowns in only seven games. Eight of Medina’s touchdowns came in the last three games of the season. After Medina was moved to running back, the Tigers won six-straight games before falling to Parkway in the regional round of the Class 5A state playoffs.

Medina garnered other honors after the season including being named the Offensive MVP of District 8-5A and an honorable mention selection on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-State team.

Hahnville head coach Lou Valdin wasn’t surprised that both Tigers were honored by state coaches.

“Obviously, Sergio turned our season around by moving to running back and he was the offensive MVP. Gabe was our best football player on defense,” Valdin said. “They deserve to be All-State.”
