16U All-Stars advance to World Series championship bracket

The 16U St. Charles Parish All-Star softball team finished fifth at the Babe Ruth World Series, which was held in North Carolina.

Teams competing were from California, Washington, Massachusetts, Kentucky, Colorado, North Carolina, Florida, Connecticut, New Jersey and Louisiana.

The St. Charles team beat Lodi, Calif. 8-7 in the opening game and then knocked off Winter Park, Fla. 12-2. In the next game, the St. Charles squad beat Nash Central, N.C. 6-2 and defeated Fairdale, Ky. 9-4.

After winning those games, St. Charles Parish was the No. 1 seed in their division and moved to the World Series championship bracket. In that bracket, St. Charles lost to Lodi, Calif. in a close 5-4 game. Next, they put up a valiant effort against Pittsfield, Ma., but lost another close game, 4-2. St. Charles Parish’s Bailee Kaplan was the winner of the Nationwide Home Run Derby after she hit three home runs in only five pitches.
