LULING – Mimosa Park Elementary took part in an amazing fund raising event from Sept. 10 through 21 to raise money to help find a cure for blood cancer.
They participated in a paper balloon sale for Light the Night.
When students brought in money, their name was put on a paper balloon which was displayed in the school to show their support to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
The society sponsors an annual nationwide walk called Light the Night to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer.
Walkers carry illuminated balloons –white for survivors, red for supporters and gold to commemorate those lives lost to cancer.
The walk will take place at Zephyr stadium on Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. in the evening. Students raised a total of $2,500. The money will go towards research to help find a cure for cancer.
It is not too late to make a contribution. Mimosa Park Elementary’s team is registered as KYLE’S KREW named after the late Kyle Bergeron, a former student of Hahnville High School and son of Vicki and Charlie Bergeron, twin brother of Logan Bergeron.
Kyle passed away after battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia for nearly two years.
The Bergeron family has a team of 80 people walking in honor of Kyle and the hope that one day soon there will be a cure for this horrible disease.
