Four new principals appointed

The St. Charles Parish School Board announced the names of several teachers and staff that have received new appointments for the 2006-2007 school year. The school board announced several new principals are appointed to various schools. Tamika Green has been appointed principal at R. J. Vail Elementary School. Green has a MED Degree from the University of New Orleans, 10 years experience and is a certified Provisional Elementary School Principal and Provisional Principal.

Tracy Logan has been appointed Assistant Principal at Destrehan High School. Logan has a MED degree from Southeastern Louisiana University, 6.5 years experience and is a certified Provisional Principal and Provisional Secondary School Principal.

Kevin Nicholas has been appointed Assistant Principal at R. K. Smith Middle School. Nicholas has an Ed.S. degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, 21 years experience and is certified as a Provisional Principal, Provisional Secondary Principal, Educational Technology leader/facilitator.

Ajit Pethe has been named Assistant Principal at Hahnville High School. Pethe has a MED degree from the University of New Orleans, 8 years experience, and is certified as a Provisional Elementary School Principal and Provisional Principal.

Frederick Treuting has been appointed as Principal on Special Assignment for Educational Support and Improvement at Central Office. Treuting has a M+30 degree from the University of New Orleans, 32 years experience and is certified as the Parish or City School Supervisor of Instruction, Principal, Supervisor of Student Teaching and Elementary School Principal.

Karen Tweedy has been appointed principal at New Sarpy Elementary School. Tweedy has a MED degree from the University of New Orleans, 28 years experience, and is certified as a Parish or City School Supervisor of Instruction and Supervisor of Student Teaching.

Paula Walsh has been appointed Principal of A.A. Songy Kindergarten Center. Walsh has a MED degree from the University of New Orleans, 21 years experience, and is certified as a Provisional Principal, Parish or City School Supervisor of Instruction and Provisional Elementary School Principal.

Surplus buses and maintenance equipment up for bid

The school board has several vehicles and maintenance equipment that have been declared as surplus. Recently, new buses and maintenance vehicles were purchased, therefore, there are several buses and maintenance equipment currently up for bid. Updating schools kitchens on the burner

The board has requested bid authorization for large kitchen equipment. The Child Nutrition Department is continuing the process of updating the schools’ kitchens. By continuing to implement the replacement plan for kitchen equipment, the school district is moving forward to improve efficiency in the kitchens. Up-to-date kitchen equipment will allow school food service employees to operate more efficiently in the kitchen and improve the quality of meals and services offered to students.

Book contract awarded to Sagebrush

The current contract with Baker&Taylor for library books was not renewed because of reoccurring processing mistakes and the inability to fill orders. The board authorized the bidding for library books at its March 15 meeting. Bids were received from seven companies and evaluated by all librarians and the library supervisor. At the May 17 board meeting, after being reviewed by all librarians, the board passed a resolution to award a new book contract to Sagebrush. The cost of the new contact is $67,000.
