Youngsters need place to ‘hang out’

It was encouraging to see students taking part in the parish planning sessions held during the past two weeks in St. Charles. After all, their future here will be longer lasting than that of most residents.

Nearly 150 students took part in a session at the Satellite Center in Luling. Among their desires for the future are more places to go for entertainment in the parish, of course.

At their ages, getting out in the crowd is important. And having to go to other parishes to do it is cumbersome.
With all of the benefits we enjoy in the Parish of Plenty, there is not one place where youngsters can go and “hang out.” A bowling alley and movie theatres were suggested.

Of course, it is not up to parish government to provide those venues of entertainment. We need to encourage business interests to consider such investments.

Retail establishments have increased somewhat here in recent years. Strip shopping centers have increased which reduces our need to go next door to the big city for shopping.

But entertainment spots for youngsters is lacking. It is something to consider for the future.
