St. Charles should have airport input

We thought the St. Charles Parish Council was guaranteed the right to appoint a member of the New Orleans Aviation Board back when plans were being made to extend the airport’s runway into our parish. That seemed to be the deal at that time.

After all, it seems a parish which would play such a big part in the future operation of the airport should have some say so.

But apparently there are New Orleans officials who do not approve of the selection our council has made. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu has taken it to task to deny that Neil Clulee, who was appointed by St. Charles Parish Council, should become that member.

Now, the mayor has filed a lawsuit that would remove our parish from any future ability to help direct the airport in a way that would benefit our parish.

That is not fair since we are a part of the airport grounds and the dangers and inconveniences we experience with its existence in our parish are our’s to bear.

Whatever the court rules in the case, St. Charles Parish should have a lot of say so in how the airport is run.

After all, it is our heads that those airplanes fly over.
