Paul Maillard to get facelift

At last, Paul Maillard Road in Luling will get a makeover.

This project was scheduled to happen years ago when Apple Street in Norco was revitalized. But the West Bank work was never done.

The road is one of our important streets for communication purposes, connecting Highway 90 and River Road in Luling and Boutte. It is the location of one of our most important institutions: St. Charles Parish Hospital. It has become the location of a medical center with an adjunct to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center going up next to the hospital and many other medical offices in the vicinity.

The road is really the business center of the West Bank of St. Charles but, at the present time, its two lanes are flanked by ditches on each side and some substandard structures along the way.

It should be mainly a business thoroughfare that offers access to the medical center and attracts other businesses that can cater to the people who work and visit the center and the people who live in other residential areas of the West Bank. This will probably require changes in zoning.

Hopefully real estate agents will take the lead in getting businesses to locate there. In so doing, they can help make a ride to Paul Maillard Road a pleasant experience where many tasks can be taken care of in a pleasant and picturesque atmosphere.
