Monday morning was a different kind of day for many of the people in southeast Louisiana who regularly receive the Times-Picayune in their driveways. Instead was a Black and Gold Extra which reported on the Saints latest mishap in Green Bay. Results of other professional games were reported in it also but not a word about the general news going on about our area and the world.
It was the first day of our former metropolitan daily’s retreat into tri-weekly publication. After a century and a half of daily publication, the T-P decided it was best to forgo print publication four days a week and concentrate more in putting news on the internet.
The Herald-Guide also has spread its wings on the internet and intends to start presenting up-to-the-minute local news there on a daily basis beginning in October. But we will continue to publish our once-a-week community newspaper in print as we have done since Hurricane Katrina sent us for a loop.
In our view, The Times-Picayune has been one of the best metropolitan dailies in the country. And it showed that by maintaining the best paid circulation per population count over the years.
We do wish it well in the years ahead but, darn it, we did miss picking it up Monday at our doorstep so we could read all of the area and worldwide news as we drank our cups of coffee.
