Several big-city newspapers are seeking bankruptcy. But fear not. St. Charles Herald-Guide is not one of those guys nor are any others in our area that we know of.
The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, etc., etc., are looking for relief, presumably because their revenues have been cut with the advent of competition from big time television and the internet.
Community newspapers have not been so affected because they concentrate on local news and do not have such competition from the worldwide networks of television and the internet. Thanks to the support of local businesses and subscribers, we have maintained a steady flow of support in revenue and readership.
This newspaper realizes that times change and we have a readily available Web site to which we add news stories frequently, making us in effect a daily newspaper. It is available to everyone for current news and to subscribers as a source to search the archives through several years of publication.
We are still the primary source of local information in St. Charles Parish and indications are that we will remain that way for the foreseaable future. Television and other internet news sources are not quite ready to get down to the community level.
So, please help us and send your local news to the St. Charles Herald-Guide, your community source of news in print and on the internet.
