So you want to take a pleasant vacation this summer but not spend all of your money on gas? Think Louisiana.
There are a lot of interesting places in the Pelican State not many miles away that will make the trip worthwhile and inexpensive.
Even the downtown area of Baton Rouge has many interesting historical sites.
And you can peek in on the legislature while there and see what your representative and senator are doing.
Or go to Natchitoches, one of the oldest and most picturesque cities in the country which has mansions to explore.
And on your way back, stop in Lafayette, the center of Acadiana. The music and entertainment there is in another world.
Our favorite is Grand Isle where you can sun on a clean beach or swim, fish and crab in the surf. And you won’t miss the people that crowd other seaside resorts.
New Orleans is back, at least the interesting and entertaining parts. This past weekend, you could have celebrated at one of at least three festivals there: Louisiana Cajun Zydeco Festival, New Orleans Seafood Festival or the Creole Tomato Festival.
What a variety. And of course the French Quarter, Magazine Street and the Garden District are there to explore at will.
There are many other areas of Louisiana that would make for a good vacation this summer.
And it won’t take much gas to get there. So go and explore.
