Earl James “Spanky” Songy

Earl James “Spanky” Songy passed away July 29. He was born in Edgard on Jan. 12, 1938 to the late Luke and Gladys Guidry Songy.

Songy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rebecca Webre Songy; a son, Randy Songy (Laura), four daughters, Denise Robin (Glenn), Nikki Morlas (Gary), Crystal Schouest (Todd), and Jeanne Moore (Danny). He is also survived by his brother, Leonard Songy, his sisters, Brenda Simon, Diana Jackson, Shirley Perret (Camille), and Gayle Songy, his sister-in-law, Irene Songy, his brother-in-law, Gene Bass, and 12 grandchildren, Toby, Chad, Allison and Henry Robin, Eric Bishop, Victoria Schouest Portugal, Christopher Schouest, Catelyn and Lauren Errington, and Isaac, Luke, and Lily Moore.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother, Carroll Songy, his sister, Gladys Songy Bass, and brother-in-law AJ Simon.

Songy served in the U.S. Marines from 1956 to 1958, and retired from Monsanto in 1997. He was a devoted parishioner at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church in Hahnville.

Visitation was held Aug. 1 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hahnville followed by a Mass of Christian burial and interment at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Taft.
