Gladys Matherne Schaubhut, 95, a native of Black Prince Island and a resident of Des Allemands, passed away on Friday, Jan. 22.
Visitation was held Jan. 25 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church followed by a funeral mass at the church and burial in the church cemetery.
Schaubhut is survived by her son, Merlin J. Schaubhut Jr. (Joyce); daughters, Linda S. Cunningham (Eugene) and Karen S. Loupe (Steven); sister, Cerene Matherne; 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin J. Schaubhut Sr.; parents, Charles and Julie Touchard Matherne; brothers, John, Charles, and Ardon Matherne; sisters, Blanche’ Lejeune, Lucille Lejeune, Cecile Schaubhut, and Anastasia Gueffier; grandchild, Amanda Schaubhut, and great-grandchild, Alyson Picou.
Schaubhut was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and was a Eucharistic Minister. She loved dancing and walking for exercise.
