Carl Benjamin Potter

Carl Benjamin Potter, 70, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday afternoon, Aug. 29.

Beloved husband of the late Berthile Schmill Potter. Loving father of Roland Prestenback Jr. (Reneé), Gail Prestenback Tobin (Danny), and the late Polly Prestenback Thibodaux.Grandfather of Blandon Zeringue, Tomilee Abadie, Roland Prestenback III, Kayla Prestenback, Shontelle Thibodaux, Cole Thibodaux, Missie Alfred, Meeka Joyce, and the late Tanya Zeringue. Brother of Martha Earline Moerer (Robert), Cecil “Sonny” Potter Jr. (Gwen), Robert “Bobby” Potter (Barbara), and the late John Wayne Potter. Son of the late Cecil Howard and Viola Deaton Potter. Also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, and a loving host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

He was a native of Houma, and resident of Boutte for over 34 years. Carl proudly served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam, and retired from J. Ray McDermott after more than 37 years of service. He enjoyed traveling, regardless of the destination, including his trips with the St. Charles Parish Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. Carl will be dearly missed by all, especially those who had the privilege of tasting his delicious baked goodies. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to all friends and family who have offered their love and support throughout his illness, including the caring staff of Hospice Compassus, and especially his nurse, Lani Fonseca. In lieu of flowers, donations to American Cancer Society are preferred.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial from Holy Family Catholic Church, 155 Holy Family Lane, Luling, on Friday, Sept. 5 at noon. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m.
