Bernadine Jane Newman, 85, a native of Simmesport, La., died on April 10.
Newman loved family get-togethers, socializing, and cooking.
She had a smile that could light up any room. Her southern charm with everyone she met was contagious. She was wife of the late William “Bill” Newman; loving mother to Daryl (Daniel) Himel of Bay St. Louis, Miss., Darlene (Kenneth) Holtgreve of Bay St. Louis; Michael (Audrey) Garrity of Lacombe, La., Janet (Guy) Denillo of Pittsburgh, Penn., Patrick (Gabriela) Garrity of Ballston Lakes, N.Y., David (Cathy) Newman of Meraux, La., Kenneth (Mary) Newman of Jacksonville, Fla., and Christine (Henry) Cologne of Des Allemands.
Newman is survived by 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Belfor and Ona Norman and had one sister, the late Elaine Marshall. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Catholic
Memorial Service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard in New Orleans on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at noon. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
