Mamie Lou (Turner) McMillion

Mamie Lou (Turner) McMillion entered into eternal rest with Jesus on Aug. 19.

McMillion is survived by her loving husband Donald F. McMillion and children: Donald E. McMillion, Bruce W. McMillion (Lisa), Denise M. Wilson (William) and Vicki L. Clardy (John).  She was a proud grandmother of Deanna (Tyler), Della (Rad), Daniel (Brittany), Cassie (Max), Bobby, Lacey (Branson), Ryan, Courtney, and our angel Dawn Cheree.

She had three great-grandchildren: Breana, Madison and Makenzie.  She was also a grandmother to her extra grandchildren Michael, Matthew and Tina Grass, and their families.

McMillion also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as many friends who loved her.

She was born in Southern Illinois on Sept. 11, 1936 and moved to St. Rose in 1960.  She was a member of Kenner United Pentecostal Church for 21 years, and a devoted and faithful member of New Life Church in Metairie for 35 years where she worked in the children’s ministry for many years.  She was loved and adored by her church family.

McMillion was a retiree of the St. Charles Public Schools and active volunteer of the 4-H Clubs in St. Charles for over 30 years.  After retirement she worked as an indigo demonstrator at the Destrehan Plantation.  She was an avid traveler and enjoyed traveling with her husband, children and grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Cecil Turner and siblings Frederick (Ted) and Helen Sue.The funeral service was held at New Life Church on Aug. 24 with Interment in Jefferson Memorial Garden, St. Rose. Arrangements were handled by Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd. Information 504835-2341.
