Jesse W. Crain, Jr.

Jesse W. Crain, Jr. died peacefully on Thursday, January 19, 2023. He was born in Bogalusa, LA on October 11, 1948, and lived in Luling, LA since 1976. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rosary Jackman Crain, and his daughter-in-spirit, Jeannee Darensbourg. He is also survived by his sisters Katherine Evelyn C. Moschitta (Johnny) and Wilda Jane C. Andrews; his nieces Gina M. King and Donna M. Giovingo; and his nephew Charles Lee Andrews, III. He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse Willard Crain, Sr. and Hazel McDaniel Crain, his brother-in-law Charles L. Andrews, Jr. and his niece Elise Andrews.

Jesse was a dedicated teacher. His teaching career began at the old St. Charles Borromeo High School in Destrehan, LA—where he met Rosary. They married and moved to Luling. Jesse spent the next twenty-seven years as a science teacher at Hahnville High School. Jesse was also a talented singer and musician who took part in the music ministry at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Luling, Holy Family Church in Luling, and St. Mark Church in Ama.  In 1999 he received the Order of St. Louis Service Award from the Archdiocese of New Orleans for his many years as an organist at Holy Family Church.

Jesse was a gentle and soft-spoken person with a deep faith in God. In spite of often being in pain and unable to breath without oxygen support, Jesse was patient and uncomplaining. He always had a smile and a good word for others. He was easy to talk to because he was a good listener who truly cared about people. Through his faith in Jesus Christ, Jesse was an inspiration to others–not only by the way he lived his life, but also by the way he prepared for and accepted his death.

Funeral Services will be at St. Mark Catholic Church in Ama, LA on Monday, February 6, 2023. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am followed by Mass at 11:00 am. Burial will be at a later time.
