Guadalupe “Lupe” Sweeney, 88, passed away surrounded by her family, on Saturday, February 17, 2024.
She was born in Brownsville, TX, where she later met her late husband, James “Doc” Sweeney. Together they had six children, Monica Sweeney De Gonzalez (Hector “Pitin”), Martha McHenry (Carrol), Cleo June Sweeney Canaski (Chris), Burl Sweeney, the late Jim Sweeney and Brenda K. Sweeney Hoffman.
She was blessed with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. She is also survived by her brother, Carlos De La Rosa and sisters, Maria Rodriguez and Olga De La Rosa.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Cecilio Alfonza Rojano and Librada De La Rosa and brother, Francisco De La Rosa
Lupe retired from Entergy Waterford 1 & 2. She was an avid bowler and a member of Triad, Council on Aging, Queen Yaya Sisterhood, Red Hatter, Hornets Used to Bees Dancer and Dancing Grannies, volunteering for community events including the Special Olympics, Food for Seniors and Toys for Tots and was a St. Gertrude Catholic Church Parishioner for 44 years, in Des Allemands.
Visitation will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, in Paradis, on Saturday, March 2nd from 9 am until service time. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 am.
