George Tate Forrest Jr

George Tate Forrest Jr., age 92, of Bayou Gauche, LA passed away on September 30, 2021 in Hull, IL. Born January 25, 1929, he was the son of George Tate Forrest Sr. and Maude (Landry) Forrest in New Orleans, LA. George married Lois Deroche on April 3, 1965 in Louisiana and she survives.

George attended a two year community college and became a self-employed wholesale distributor. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Paradis, LA. In 1974, he started Bayou Gauche Volunteer Fire Department. George was president of the fire department for over 35 years; and served as Interim President for two years. In 1991 George was appointed to serve on the first St. Parish Communications District Board of Commissioners representing fire service and help to implement the first 911 system. He was a member of the St. Charles Firemen’s Association, the Louisiana State Firemen’s Association, was Custodian of Elections, and assisted with delivering MRE’s and water to residents who stayed behind during Hurricane Katrina

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lois Forrest; children, Roxzana (Michael) Moore, Brian (Sandra) Forrest, and Gaynell (Kevin) Ayo; fourteen grandchildren; twenty five great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are two children, Zandra Randazzo and Harrell Forrest; a brother, Donald J. Forrest; and a sister, Beverly Forrest.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Falgout Funeral Home in Raceland, LA. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude Catholic Church Cemetery.
