A Lockport couple was arrested on Jan. 2 after admitting they struck a Paradis man with their vehicle during the early morning hours of New Year’s Day and then fled the scene, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The body of 28-year-old Chad M. Gaubert, the father of one young child and the stepfather of another, was found just before 3 a.m. on Jan. 1. His body was lying on the shoulder of the road on Highway 90 in Paradis west of Bayou Gauche Road. At the time, the cause of Gaubert’s death was unknown.

Jennifer Theriot, 28, and William Theriot, 30,  turned themselves in to the Louisiana State Police the day after the crime and said they were responsible for Gaubert’s death.

Jennifer Theriot told investigators she was driving a Jeep Wrangler eastbound when she hit Gaubert. She said she and William Theriot got out of the Jeep and saw a body on the road but left without offering assistance or reporting the accident.

Jennifer Theriot was booked with felony hit and run. William Theriot was booked with being a principal to felony hit and run, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

As of press time, both suspects’ bonds have not been set.
