Woman charged with negligent homicide after Luling wreck

A 35-year-old Thibodaux woman was arrested and charged with negligent homicide after State Police say she caused a crash that led to the death of a Paradis man last night on Paul Maillard Road in Luling.

Micheal Cullins, 39, was driving a 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle down Paul Maillard when Elke Forbes pulled out into the roadway in an attempt to turn left from a private drive, according to the accident report. Cullins’ motorcycle crashed into Forbes’ Dodge Caravan and he was transferred to St. Charles Parish Hospital. He died after arriving from injuries sustained in the crash.

Forbes and her passenger, 19-year-old Sierrarene Gerard, were transported to Ochsner Kenner Medical Center with minor injuries.

State Police drew blood from Forbes to determine if she was impaired at the time of the crash. Toxicology results on Cullins will be obtained during the autopsy.

In addition to negligent homicide, Forbes was also charged with failure to yield from a private drive.

The crash remains under investigation.
