As part of an ongoing study of tornadic risk in the United States, the VorTek company of Huntsville, Alabama has released the rankings of the Top 20 tornado-prone states for the month of February.

The rankings, based on National Weather Service data from 1950 through 2005, are:

1. Mississippi

2. Arkansas

3. Alabama

4. Tennessee

5. Louisiana

6. Georgia

7. North Carolina

8. Florida

9. Illinois

10. Oklahoma

11. Indiana

12. Missouri

13. Texas

14. Ohio

15. Idaho

16. South Carolina

17. Kansas

18. Virginia

19. Kentucky.

20. Pennsylvania
