Water pipe rushes towards completion

West bank side almost finished, 300 feet left to go on east bank

Todd Champagne, parish construction technician inspector, says the west bank pipe project that will filter water to residents living on the east bank is near completion.

“In a couple of weeks we’ll be just about complete on the west bank side of the parish,” he said. “We have about 100 more feet of 10 inch pipes to lay across the levee in Hahnville on La 3160, and about 300 feet to go across the levee on the east bank.”

Champagne says everything will be ready to go but the water has to be chlorinated and pressure tested first before it can be put to good use.

“Once we finish laying the pipe, it will stretch across the levee, but it will be covered” he said. “There will be a ramp built over some sections and other segments of the pipe will be covered with dirt, so it won’t be visible.”
