Unknown suspects vandalize golf greens
St. Charles Parish Deputies were dispatched to Ormond Country Club in Destrehan, in response to a call from the club’s manager stating that the golf course had been vandalized during the night or in the early morning hours of June 7.
It was reported that someone had vandalized the golf greens at holes #7 and #11 by digging them up with a shovel.
“A resident was walking his dog and noticed the damage to the golf course. I was called, I immediately responded and found the #7 hole completely destroyed. #11 sustained considerable damage as well,” said Ormond Country Club General Manager Jim Deal. He went on to say, “It was a vicious attack against the club. At this time, we are not sure if it was a random act or if someone had a grudge against the club.”
“The grounds keepers did an outstanding job restoring the holes. The restoration cost were about $2000,” said the club manager.
“It is obvious that someone went to great lengths to vandalize the golf course. It is easy to say that this looks like a juvenile prank but unfortunately that is not always the case,” said Cpt. Pat Yoes of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The incident is still under investigation. Anyone having information should contact the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office at 783-6807 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-903-STOP. Citizens need not give their name nor testify and could receive up to $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest.
In addition to the reward offered by Crimestoppers, Ormond Country Club is offering a $500 for information leading to the arrest of the individual(s) responsible for the vandalism of the golf course.
