Turn lane planned for Barton Ave.

Heavily trafficked road will be expanded

Work is expected to begin on adding a left turn lane to the heavily trafficked Barton Avenue in Luling by November of next year.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) confirmed the project was approved in its 2017-18 budget.

DOTD spokeswoman Bambi Hall said the $2 million project was aimed at improving traffic flow on the state highway. Plans call for adding the lane on Barton Avenue to River Road (LA 18), according to the DOTD.

The project was discussed among others planned or underway for the parish at the DOTD’s Oct. 10 meeting.

The project is in the design and development phase, according to the DOTD.

Councilwoman Mary Clulee said adding the turn lane will improve traffic flow.

Barton Avenue serves as a major connection between Highway 90 and River Road, but it runs through a residential neighborhood.

DOTD has also announced $88.2 million of work is planned for the parish in its 2017-18 highway program, including the Barton Avenue expansion.
