Truck driver crashes into three vehicles in Boutte, charged with DWI

A truck driver was arrested and charged with a DWI after crashing into three cars and injuring three people in Boutte on Tuesday morning, according to the Louisiana State Police.

The truck rear-ended two vehicles while traveling eastbound while the cars were stopped at a red light on Highway 90 in front of Walmart. The 18-wheeler then crashed head-on into another vehicle. Two of the drivers suffered minor injuries, while the third driver, whose car was pushed across the westbound lane by the 18-wheeler and came to rest in the roadside ditch, was taken to an area hospital with broken bones.

A woman who was involved in the accident and asked not to be identified said it was a very scary experience.

“I was sitting in the right hand lane,” she said. “He came up behind us and went right through our two cars. I was side-swiped all up the left side of my car, but he pushed that other lady right off the road.”

The truck driver, Jeremiah Rodney, 27, of New Roads, was arrested at the scene. Along with the DWI, Rodney also faces charges of reckless operation of a motor vehicle and vehicular negligent injuring. Rodney is being held in the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center under a $22,500 bond.
