Thriller filmed in Hahnville gets Super Bowl treatment

A thriller produced by J.J. Abrams that stars John Goodman and was partially filmed in Hahnville received prime time coverage during Sunday’s Super Bowl.

The trailer for “10 Cloverfield Lane” aired during the first quarter of Sunday’s game between the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos.

The movie filmed near Hahnville’s Homeplace Plantation in December 2014.  During filming, smoke filled the area, and shooting wrapped with a fire scene.

The film centers around a young woman, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who wakes up in a cellar after a severe car accident and is told she was rescued by a doomsday survivalist. That man, played by Goodman, says that a chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable.Winstead’s character must decide whether to trust the man or escape.

A majority of the movie’s plot has been kept under wrap. It is apparently a follow up to Abrams’ 2008 monster movie Cloverfield. When the movie filmed in Hahnville, it was known as “Valencia.”

Abrams, who found stardom as the creator of ABC’s “Lost,” has been on an impressive streak that includes “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” That film has grossed more than $900 million in the U.S. and more than $2 billion worldwide.“10 Cloverfield Lane” will be released on March 11.
