Three-vehicle wreck at Hale Boggs bridge claims life

A three-vehicle wreck on I-310 north at the Hale Boggs Memorial Bridge Sunday claimed the life of a Gonzales woman and injured three other people.

At about 10:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop B were called to the scene of a serious injury crash.

A passenger in one of the vehicles, Ni-Kadek Ayu-Ratih Sinta, 21, of Gonzales was transported to University Medical Center with critical injuries and pronounced dead on Monday (Jan. 15).

The initial investigation indicated a 2008 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Bria Mason, 23, of Boutte was traveling on I-310 north in the right lane at mile post 7.3.

“For reasons still under investigation, the Impala veered to the left and struck the left rear of a 2012 Nissan Altima that was traveling the right lane ahead of the Impala,” according to State Police.

The Altima was driven by Eryawan Bagus, 25, of Hammond, La., with Sinta as a passenger. After the Altima was struck, it rotated counter clockwise and came to rest across the right lane of I-310 with its passenger side facing on-coming traffic.  It was then struck on the passenger side by a 2015 Ford Focus, driven by Allison Benoit, 22, of Houma, La.

Mason, Bagus and Benoit were transported to local area hospitals with minor to moderate injuries.

Mason provided a blood sample, which will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for toxicological analysis. Impairment is not suspected at this time, according to State Police.  It is unknown if speed was a factor or if seat belts were worn.
