A 21-year-old Hahnville man was arrested Monday and charged with second degree murder.
Laron Toney Jr. is accused of fatally shooting 66-year-old Lionel Fiffie of Hahnville at approximately 1 a.m. Monday morning. The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant for Toney as result of its investigation and announced he was in custody just after 1 p.m. Monday.
Fiffie was found by police at his Smith Street home, the man having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was declared dead at the scene.

Toney was found at a Kenner apartment complex and subsequently arrested.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, it is believed Fiffie and Toney were arguing over money, specifically a debt allegedly owed by Fiffie to Toney.
“I would like to thank our deputies and detectives who worked diligently on this homicide since early this morning in order to arrest the alleged perpetrator. I also wish to thank both the Kenner Police Department and the United States Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force for their assisting us in making the apprehension in the case”, said Sheriff Greg Champagne.
Anyone with any other information regarding the homicide is asked to call Detective Kevin Tennison with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office at 985-783-1135 or by calling 911
Champagne added that based upon the information his department has discovered concerning the case, the situation appears to have no connection at all to last week’s shooting in Killona.
“We are still actively investigating around the clock,” Champagne said of the Killona incident.
