State will not prosecute man in alleged rape

The state will not pursue charges against a Hahnville man who was accused of raping a woman after offering her a ride home more than two years ago, according to court documents.

Donald E. Mastin III was arrested in October 2009 and booked with the forcible rape of a 27-year-old Des Allemands woman. Authorities say that Mastin offered the woman a ride home after she left a local bar on foot.

The woman told authorities that Mastin refused to take her home and instead drove her to his house, where he assaulted and raped her. Mastin told authorities that the sex was consensual, according to the arrest report.

State prosecutors later found inconsistencies in the woman’s statement to police and decided not to prosecute Mastin, according to court records.
