St. Rose native to host stand-up comedy event Sept. 20 in Luling

Chris Trew, a St. Rose native and touring comedian, will host a stand-up comedy event Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Lafon Performing Arts Center in Luling.

Tickets start at $25. Attendees must be 21 years or older to attend.

Trew, an instructor at the New Orleans School of Comedy Arts, has produced and hosted Super Stand-Up Saturday for several years at other venues in the New Orleans area. This is the first year the event is in Luling.

Trew will also facilitate an improv workshop with Talented Theatre students from St. Charles Parish Public Schools on Sept. 19.

Chris Trew, a St. Rose native and touring comedian, will host a stand-up comedy event Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Lafon Performing Arts Center in Luling.

Colleen Kehoe, a spokesperson for the Lafon Center, said the comedy event features six comics from across the U.S., including two from New Orleans: Troy Duchane and Ashley Zoerner.

“The trademark of Super Stand-up Saturday is the stark differences in style and approach,” Kehoe said. “Attendees can expect the event to be anything but boring, with a fast pace and tons of laughter.”

Other comics featured include TeeRay Bergeron, Akeyla Aluko, Samantha Bednarz and Ryan Rogers.

Kehoe said she thinks the biggest takeaway for parish residents will be the amount of talent in South Louisiana.

“Our collaboration with the New Orleans School of Comedy Arts highlights our region as a place full of culture and talent with a broad range of styles,” she said.

The comedy event is part of Lafon Center’s new community series, which highlights local artist and art organizations from St. Charles Parish and the surrounding areas.

“We’re featuring special events and performances that celebrate the diverse talent, culture and artists in our region,” Kehoe said. “We’re highlighting local talent through collaboration with fellow arts and cultural centers like the St. Charles Parish Public Library and Jefferson Performing Arts Society. Our inspiration behind this program and our whole season is that art is a bridge between generations, cultures and perspectives. If art is something we can provide at low or no cost for the benefit of the community, it’s a win in our book.”

She said the community series will bring regional talent and big names together to bridge perspectives and share performances with the local community.

“Collaborating with other organizations boosts our parish and brings more talent in while introducing the community to new styles and methods of performing arts,” Kehoe said.

The Lafon Center’s main stage series will feature a lineup of 10 national and international touring artists and its school series will present more than 50 performances by St. Charles Parish Public School students.
