St. Charles Police: Evicted man tried to burn down apartment duplex

A Hahnville man accused of attempting to burn down the apartment duplex he was evicted from was arrested last Thursday.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged Jerrian Brown, 27, with attempted aggravated arson.

On March 14, the Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the owner of an apartment duplex at 180 Elm St., Hahnville, reporting a strong gasoline odor near the exterior wall of the complex.

The owner reviewed video surveillance footage and observed Brown pouring the contents of a gasoline can along the wall of the duplex, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

A Sheriff’s Office investigation determined Brown had been evicted from his apartment in the complex.

Brown was being held in Nelson Coleman Correctional Center in Killona on $50,000 bond as of Friday.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Brown also was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of CDS and possession of drugs in presence of a minor under age 17.
